Volleyball: Z-M notches road win over Lake City

Kaitlen Buck was near-perfect from the service line, Carley Henning hit double figures in kills and digs, and Kalli Paukert hit the low 20s in set assists to lead the Zumbrota-Mazappa volleyball team to a three-set, 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 Hiawatha Valley League road victory over Lake City Tuesday evening.

Buck finished the night 15 of 16 serving while Henning posted 10 kills and 14 digs. Paukert tossed up 23 assists and Hailey Dykes put down six kills for the Cougars.

For the Tigers, Breanna Gates had six kills, one block and one assist while Madi Green slammed seven kills and threw up one block. Abby Ziebell had seven set assists while teammate Bailey Cronin dished out five. Martha Guevara ended up with 11 digs.

“We put one good game together, but we just can’t seem to get over the hump,” said Lake City head coach Kim Bobb. “But Breanna Gates had a good night, she was swinging like crazy. We just have to get everything together.”

The Cougars (5-5) will take a week off before hosting Goodhue (7-1) Tuesday, Sept. 17. Lake City, meanwhile, will head to Dodge Center to take on Triton (3-4).
