Girls Tennis: Lake City sweeps Ellsworth

The Lake City Tigers put on a dominant display on Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Ellsworth in Lake City.

Josie Kuchinka and Grace Dankers won in two sets at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively. Emily Albright got another win for the Tigers, leading the Panthers’ Allyson Stoetzel at No. 4 singles 6-1, 2-1 before their match was called due to excessive heat.

At No. 2 singles, Lake City’s Katie Henning trailed Ellsworth’s Megan Stress 7-2 in the third-set tiebreaker. But Henning stormed back, winning the next eight points to win the three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

The Tigers went on the sweep the doubles, with the team of Erica Hubbard and Lidia Wallerich taking No. 2 doubles 6-0, 7-6 (7-1) against Kenzie Anderson and Mariah Vogel.

In action last week, Lake City picked up an important Section 1A win over New Life Academy on Thursday, 4-3. Then in a quadrangular in Hastings, the Tigers lost 8-0 to Woodbury and Rosemount and then had a 4-4 tie against Hastings.

On Friday, Lake City hosts Winona Cotter. Ellsworth is back on the court Sept. 5 at New Richmond.
