Volleyball: Cannon Falls loses 5-set thriller

Holding a 2-1 lead after three sets, Cannon Falls could not hold off Apple Valley on Tuesday as the Eagles charged back to win in five sets, 25-17, 18-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-8.

“It was a good match; we were excited to get some good competition against a bigger school,” said Bombers’ head coach Melissa Huseth. “We’re disappointed with the loss. … We had lots of moments in the fourth and fifth set and both teams had girls slipping all over the floor. We were tentative in what we could do.”

Hailey Huseth and Madasyn Hofstedt each finished with seven kills to lead Cannon Falls. Huseth also had 11 set assists and five ace serves, and Hofstedt finished with five ace blocks.

Lydia Franken controlled the Bombers’ offense with 13 set assists, and Becca Vandenheuvel collected 18 digs in the loss.

Cannon Falls (0-1) plays its first home game on Thursday, hosting Red Wing.
