Volleyball: Z-M knocks off St. Charles for 1st win

Thanks to a big night by senior middle hitter Carley Henning, Zumbrota-Mazeppa opened the season with a three-set victory over St. Charles Tuesday in Zumbrota, 25-16, 27-25, 25-20.

Henning finished with team highs in kills (10), solo blocks (5) and ace serves (3). Setter Kalli Paukert had 23 set assists, and libero Molly Lawler had seven digs in the Cougars’ victory.

Kaitlin Sikkink had seven kills and two blocks for the Saints in the loss. Daphnee lange added 12 digs, and Jaden Jurgenson had nine set assists and two ace serves.

Z-M (1-0) goes on the road Thursday for a non-conference match versus Rochester Mayo.
