Girls Soccer: Tigers suffer road loss

The Lake City girls soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Monday, falling to Dover-Eyota 3-2 in Dover.

It took the Eagles just three minutes to get on the board, but in the 8th minute, Emily Schimbeno tied the game up for the Tigers at 1-1. Grayce Adler got an assist on the Schimbeno goal.

“We were bringing the ball up and we had Emily slotted in the middle,” said Lake City head coach Mark Spence. “Grayce passed it up and Emily was able to push it through for the score.”

Before the end of the first half, Dover-Eyota popped in another goal, then went up 3-1 with a goal 10 minutes into the second half. At the 55th minute, the Tigers made it a one-goal game when Schimbeno scored for the second time.

At goalkeeper, Lindy Holmstadt had two saves, while Beth Petersen had three stops for Lake City in the loss.

At 1-1 overall, the Tigers start Hiawatha Valley League play Thursday at home against Byron.
