PIZM excels in home dual

The Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa gymnastics team had the top four all-around scores to secure a 143.15-131.35 dual win over Byron Friday night in Pine Island.

Brynn Olson had the top all-around score with 36.3, with a first-place showing in the uneven bars (8.65) and second-place finishes in the vault (9.25), balance beam (9.1) and floor exercise (9.3). Sawyer Gorman was second overall at 36.125 while winning the vault (9.5) and floor (9.375). Kenzie Cordes completed the PIZM sweep, winning the beam at 9.25 as part of a third-place all-around finish at 35.675. Jaci Newman took the fourth spot in the all-around at 35.025.

"The team score of 143.15 bettered the highest score from last season," said PIZM coach Chris Templeton. "To do that this early in the season just goes to show how hard the girls worked in the off-season."

On Tuesday, PIZM will travel to La Crescent.
