Cross-Country: Winger boys take first at St. Olaf
The Red Wing boys' cross-country team is two-for-two this season, securing a team victory at the St. Olaf High School Showcase on Thursday in Northfield. The Wingers scored 88 points, while second-place Mounds View tallied 138.
Weston Wyatt led the way for Red Wing, taking sixth place in 16 minutes, 13.6 seconds. Following closely behind were teammates Tom Nemanich (15th, 16:37.9), Tucker Wallin (18th, 16:40.5), Jonah Leise (21st, 16:44.3) and Bryan Zucker (28th, 16:53.8). Also scoring for Red Wing were Skyler Bennehoff (79th, 17:54.1) and Caleb Korder (120th, 18:19.6).
The Red Wing girls' cross-country team also had a good day, finishing with 329 team points, good enough for ninth place.
Wayzata won the meet with 45 points. Hudson took eighth place just seven points ahead of the Winger s.
Junior Grace Johnson was the top finisher for Red Wing, taking eighth place with a time of 18:52.5. Other scorers for the Wingers included: Ariana Mollgaard (66th, 20:52.7), Grace Dube (85th, 21:20.7), Tori Leitner (93rd, 21:27.0) and Sammi Chandler (102nd, 21:39.7).
Next up for Red Wing is a trip to Hastings on Thursday, Sept. 6.
