Area Boys Basketball Wrap: Dirckx reaches new marks in Bombers' victory
Cannon Falls senior Ryan Dirckx hit two milestones on Friday with a career-high 29 points, putting him over 1,000 career points and helped vault the Bombers to a 60-54 Hiawatha Valley League win against Triton.
Drew Otte and Isaac Illa both finished with eight points to help Cannon Falls to victory.
For the host Cobras, Drew Kelly finished with 27 points, followed by 14 from Brady Essig.
The Bombers (4-6, 2-2 HVL) return home on Friday, Jan. 12 to take on Kasson-Mantorville.
Goodhue 66, Kenyon-Wanamingo 55
With half its field goals made coming from behind the 3-point arc, Goodhue managed to hold off Kenyon-Wanamingo on Friday with a 66-55 Hiawatha Valley League victory in Kenyon.
Leading the Wildcats’ 3-ball barrage was Dawson Evenson, who hit five 3-pointers as part of a 15-point night. Sam Opsahl led Goodhue with 20 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range and from the free-throw line. Mitchell Hemenway finished with 13 points, followed by 12 points and five rebounds from Mitchell Schrimpf.
As a team, the Wildcats hit 11 3-pointers.
Jack Beulke was the Knights’ top scorer with 17 points along with seven assists, followed by 15 points from Tate Erlandson. Colin Sviggum also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Goodhue (7-4, 3-1 HVL) begins a three-game homestand Tuesday versus Hayfield. K-W (1-13, 1-4 HVL) is off until Friday, Jan. 12 when Pine Island comes to town.
Lake City 73, Stewartville 54
Lake City played its first game of 2018, and got its first win of the New Year with a 73-54 victory at Stewartville on Friday.
Mar Kjos led the Tigers with 20 points, followed by Nathan Heise's 19 and Zach Bremer's 17.
Lake City (9-2) hosts Byron on Tuesday.
Z-M 65, Dover-Eyota 57
Down five at halftime, Zumbrota-Mazeppa outscored Dover-Eyota 39-26 in the final 18 minutes for a 65-57 non-conference win on Tuesday.
Jacob Niebuhr neared a triple-double, scoring 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting to go with 11 rebounds (six offensive) and seven steals. He also had four assists for the Cougars.
Willy Heitman hit all three of Z-M's 3-pointers in an 13-point outing, and Zach Hutton finished with 11 points in the victory.
