Boys Basketball Wrap: Z-M dominates Hayfield

Z-M 68, Hayfield 28

Zumbrota-Mazeppa clamped down on Hayfield on Wednesday, holding the Vikings in the teens in both halves for a 68-28 victory in the Hayfield Invitational.

Four Cougars scored at least 10 points, including Willy Heitman's game-high 16. Zach Hutton added 11 for Z-M, while Jacob Niebuhr and Isaiah Nolte each scored 10 points. Niebuhr had a team-high six rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Patrick Towey had 11 points for the Vikings, and was the only Hayfield player to score more than six points.

L-O 48, Goodhue 34

The Grand Meadow Invitational opened with LeRoy-Ostrander and Goodhue engaging in a defensive battle on Wednesday. The Cardinals, whose lone loss was their season opener, won their eighth-straight game with a 48-34 victory over the Wildcats.

Mitchell Hemenway and Sam Opsahl both had seven points for Goodhue, and finished as the high-scorers for the Wildcats. L-O also struggled offensively, with Riley Olson's 10 points leading the way.
