Area Boys Basketball Wrap: Goodhue escapes in OT

An explosive overtime period lifted Goodhue to a 47-40 victory over Wabasha-Kellogg on Saturday in the HVL/TRC Showdown at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

Going into the extra frame tied 37-37, the Wildcats outscored the Falcons 10-3 to snag the win,

Mitchell Hemenway and Sam Opsahl both scored 14 points for Goodhue, with Hemenway also grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds to record a double-double.

Caledonia 79, Lake City 71

In a rematch of the 2017 Section 1AA championship game, Caledonia came back to beat Lake City, 79-71, on Saturday in the HVL/TRC Showdown at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

The Warriors trailed the defending section champions 56-47 with 8 minutes, 48 seconds to play, but were able to go a run to take a 62-61 lead with 5 minutes to go in the game. Caledonia would not trail the rest of the way.

Warrior Owen King led all scorers with 29 points, while the Tigers got 19 each from Nathan Heise and Marc Kjos and 12 from Charlie White.

Chatfield 66, K-W 47

With a 66-47 loss to Chatfield on Saturday at the HVL/TRC Showdown at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Kenyon-Wanamingo's season-opening skid has reached nine games.

Jack Buelke had team-highs in both points (19) and rebounds (6) for the Knights, while Reid Johnson (17) and Seth Allen (12) were the top-scorers for the Gophers.

Chatfield had just a six-point lead at halftime, but outscored K-W 40-27 in the second half.

PEM 72, Z-M 58

Plainview-Elgin-Millville used a big first half to beat Zumbrota-Mazeppa 72-58 on Saturday in the HVL/TRC Showdown at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

Jacob Niebuhr's 23 points were a team-best for the Cougars, with Isaiah Nolte chipping in 13 in the loss. Niebuhr also pulled down nine rebounds and had three steals.

The Bulldogs countered with Barron Holtz and David Penrose who had 20 and 19 points, respectively.

Pine Island 65, Cotter 47

Pine Island defeated Winona Cotter, 65-47, on Saturday in the HVL/TRC Showdown at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. No individual statistics were available at press time.

St. Charles 76, Cannon Falls 51

Cannon Falls fell 76-51 to St. Charles on Saturday in the HVL/TRC Showdown at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. No individual statistics were available at press time.
