Girls Basketball: Buck reaches 1,000 points in Wingers' win
Red Wing's Tayzha Buck hit a career milestone on Thursday and helped the Wingers avenge their Section 1AAA loss from last season after beating Byron 72-46 at Sonju Gymnasium.
Buck scored a game-high 18 points, crossing the 1,000-point plateau in the process. Buck also finished with six rebounds and two assists.
In total, four Red Wing players finished in double digits. Lindsay Reps came up with 15 points, eight assists and five steals, and Kyli Nelson added 10 points and five rebounds. Elle Thorson came off the bench and scored 13 points with six boards and five assists. Abi Deming wasn't far behind with nine points and seven rebounds.
Lexi Glynn was Byron's top scorer with 12 points. Senior Ayoka Lee, a Kansas State recruit who scored 49 points in the Bears' Section 1AAA win over the Wingers last winter, was held to 10 points.
Trailing 34-27 at halftime, Red Wing took over in the second half, outscoring Byron 45-12. The Wingers also held a 14-6 advantage in 3-pointers, led by six from Buck.
Winners of three straight, Red Wing (6-1) will host Austin on Tuesday before taking a 14-day holiday break.
