Amateur Baseball: Aces drop games to Dundas, Chaseburg-Coon Valley

Kyle Blahnik was the only member of the Red Wing Aces that could muster a hit on Sunday, accounting for the team's two base knocks in a 7-0 loss at third-ranked Dundas.

Blahnik got singles in the second and fourth innings while Mitch Matter drew a walk and Dixon Irwin got hit by a pitch on two occasions to account for the Aces' runners on base.

On the mound, Brady Schroeder took the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned), nine hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings of work. Trey Eckstrom threw two scoreless innings of relief.

For the Dukes, Nate Van Roekel was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, the only multi-base hit of the game. Drew Sathrum was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Pat Wadzinski and Tyler Jones were each 2-for-4 in the victory. Todd Mathison struck out nine over five innings to secure the win. Noah Luedtke had three strikeouts over four scoreless innings of work without allowing a hit.

Red Wing has three games on tap this week, with the Minneapolis Angels visiting on Tuesday, followed by a road game at Lake City Wednesday and a non-league home game against Burnsville on Friday.

Friday

Chaseburg-Coon Valley 4, Red Wing 3

Down 4-1 after six innings, Red Wing managed to close the gap on Chaseburg-Coon Valley on Friday with a run apiece in the seventh and eighth innings. But, the Aces could not complete the comeback as they fell 4-3 to the visiting Blues at the Red Wing Athletic Field.

Adam Thygesen led Red Wing's offense with a 3-for-4 showing with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. . Mitch Matter and Kyle Blahnik each hit for a double, with an RBI for Matter and a run for Blahnik. Brady Schroeder was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Brodie Smith scored a run for the Aces.

On the mound, Sam Palmatier went six innings, giving up 11 hits and zero walks with four runs (all earned) in the loss. Isaac Oeltjen was able to keep Red Wing in the hunt with three hit-less innings, striking out three with a pair of walks.

Kyle Servias paved the way for Chaseburg-Coon Valley's offense, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Kody Larson was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Chris Curti was 2-for-4 while driving in a run. Damien Weblin went all nine innings for the Blues, striking out 13 with eight hits, two walks and three runs (all earned) given up.
