Amateur Baseball: Red Wing rolls through River Rats
The Red Wing Aces, behind an 11-hit effort, made short work of the Hudson River Rats on Wednesday, rolling to a 12-0 seven-inning victory at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
Red Wing tallied three runs in the first, with Mitch Matter reaching home on an error while Brady Schroeder scored on a Kyle Blahnik ground out and Jimmy Bohmbach plated a run on a Tait Kelly sacrifice fly.
In the second, a pair of Aces came home as Brodie Smith and Schroeder made it 5-0 after a Bohmbach double. Then, five runs came across in the third with an RBI double from Trey Eckstrom, a wild pitch, a two-run triple from Schroeder and a Bohmbach RBI single.
Already up by double digits, Red Wing tacked on two more runs in the fifth with Smith crossing the plate on a double steal and a Bohmbach sacrifice fly that allowed Matter to score.
Schroeder finished 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI while Bohmbach finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Smith completed the day with two hits and three runs from the No. 9 spot in the lineup.
Josh Thygesen got the start for the Aces, striking out two while allowing two hits and three walks over four innings for the victory. Evan Bayer threw two hitless innings with a strikeout and a walk, and Isaac Oeltjen tallied two strikeouts with two hits allowed in the seventh inning.
On Sunday, Red Wing heads to Hastings for a Classic Cannon Valley League contest before heading to Miesville for the Independence Day game.
Bay City 6, Cannon Falls 5
Trailing 5-2 after five innings, Bay City put up four runs in the sixth inning to take out Cannon Falls 6-5 Wednesday at John Burch Park.
Braxton Lindow was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Garrett Beach was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Bears. Zeke Williams scored a pair of runs while collecting a double, and Tanner Jackson and Jared Woodward each were 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Bump Ulvenes finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Bombers, and Jacob Duden was 2-for-4 with a run on offense while striking out six with six walks, eight hits and five runs (four earned) in a complete-game victory on the mound.
Cannon Falls heads to Miesville on Sunday before taking on Randolph back at John Burch Park for July 4.
Miesville 13, Rosetown 11
Miesville managed to survive a late rally for Rosetown, including a six-run sixth inning, as part of a 13-11 victory Wednesday at Jack Ruhr Field.
The Mudhens’ offense was led by Charles Bruchu, who finished 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBI and a run scored. Jordy Horsch was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs while Spencer Merle, Matt Van Der Bosch, Nate Hammes and Andrew Werner each collected two hits.
After taking on Eagan Friday, Miesville will host Cannon Falls on Sunday and Red Wing on Monday.
