Amateur Baseball Roundup: Miesville holds off Lake City

Miesville 8, Lake City 6

Two runs in the bottom of the eighth propelled Miesville to an 8-6 victory over Lake City on Thursday at Jack Ruhr Field.

Andrew Sandstrom had a hit and two RBI for the Mudhens while Spencer Merle had a double and two singles along with an RBI in five at-bats.

Aaron Stein got the win for Miesville, throwing five innings and giving up six hits and two runs (zero earned) with five strikeouts and four walks. Eric Weber threw one inning to pick up the save.

Dundas 8, Cannon Falls 6 (19 inn.)

Luke Winchell pitched 10 2/3 innings of relief, but gave up two Dundas runs in the top of the 19th inning to take the loss in an 8-6 Dukes’ victory.

After walking Carson Jones to start the 19th, and retiring Pat Wadzinski on a sacrifice bunt, Winchell could only watch as Todd Mathison blasted a two-run home run to left-center field to give Dundas its first and only lead of the game.

The homer was Mathison’s third hit of the game, and his second and third RBI. Nathan CanRoekel had four hits, while Adam Johnson had three hits including two doubles.

Cory Hedeen had four hits for the Bears, while Ryan Brintnall added three knocks and an RBI.

Carson Jones got the win for the Dukes, pitching five innings and giving up five hits.

The two teams combined for 161 plate appearances, 32 hits and 33 men left on base. Dundas struck out just five times, and took just seven walks in the game, compared to 11 strikeouts and five walks for Cannon Falls.


Miesville 10, Cannon Falls 1

It took only three innings for Miesville to dominate Cannon Falls on Tuesday, though the two teams still played nine innings. The Mudhens scored three runs in the third inning, four in the seventh, and three in the eighth to race past the Bears, 10-1, at Jack Ruhr Field.

Spencer Merle was the sparkplug for Miesville, going 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs at the top of the order. Jordan Lugowski and Matt Van Der Bosch each had two RBI for the Mudhens with Van Der Bosch and Anthony Winters each coming up with two hits.

Steve Maher and Erik Olson each threw three innings, with Maher starting. Chris Olean and Thomas Roob pitched the final three innings.

Brandon Voth had two hits, including a double, for Cannon Falls, while Luke Winchell had the Bears’ lone RBI.
