Amateur Baseball: Bears go 1-1 on weekend

In a seven-inning affair, Midway disposed of Cannon Falls, 4-0, on Saturday. The Snurdbirds scored twice in the second, and added insurance in the fourth and sixth to pick up the home victory.

Jared Woodward took the loss for the Bears, pitching four innings and giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks to go with two strikeouts. Austin Jacobs gave up an earned run on two hits in two innings.

Keith Meyers, Brandon Voth and Ryan Brintnall had singles for Cannon Falls, who had more strikeouts (five) than base runners (three).

The Bears bounced back on Sunday, taking a 5-4 victory over Lake Henry. Cannon Falls scored in the bottom of the eighth to hand Nate Otto the win. Otto pitched two innings, taking over for Meyers, who started and lasted four innings. Otto allowed zero runs and just one walk. Meyers gave up four runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Jamie Stay walked off with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Rich Burr had two hits to lead the Bears, including a double in the fifth.

Cannon Falls (8-6) will host Eagan on Thursday.
