Boys Swimming: Wingers lose to Winona

After a two-week break, Red Wing got back in the pool on Thursday, taking a 99-85 loss to Winona at Twin Bluff Middle School.

The 200-yard medley relay got the Wingers off to a good start, posting its best time of the season. Ian Johnson, Ben Schaffer, William Meacham and Jayden Jech took second in the even with a time of 1 minute, 45.63 seconds, less than a half-second behind the Winhawks first-place team.

Red Wing's Schaffer picked up a win in the 50 freestyle, going down and back in 23.42. Meacham covered the 100 butterfly in 54.03, good for the top spot, while Schaffer snagged another win in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:04.71.

In the final event, Wingers Konner Brickey, Jonas Hart, Patrick Beech and Schaffer won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:42.46.

On Saturday, Red Wing will host Bloomington Kennedy in a dual at Twin Bluff. River Falls was originally scheduled to attend, but backed out on Thursday. Diving begins at 10 a.m. with swimming to follow at noon.
