Amateur Baseball: Serpents secure road victory

Helped by a big night at the plate from Austin Baab, the Lake City Serpents picked up a 7-2 road victory against the Rochester Royals on Wednesday.

Baab went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double, tallying three runs and three RBI in the process. John Brown, Matt Miller, Hunter Baab and Alex Scharpen each collected hits for Lake City. Ryan Wolfe got the win after five innings of relief where he gave up one run, three walks and four hits with a pair of strikeouts.

The Serpents head to Cannon Falls on Sunday.

Miesville 4, St. Paul Capitals 1

Tied at 1-1 through the first five innings, Miesville pulled away with a three-run sixth inning to beat the St. Paul Capitals 4-1 Wednesday at Jack Ruhr Park.

Carles Bruchu was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Andrew Werner drove another run for the Mudhens, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. Deryk Marks, Nate Hammes and Sahnnon Ahern also plated runs for Miesville, which has won its last 13 games.

Ahern was also the winning pitcher with three strikeouts compared to four hits, two walks and a run allowed in seven inning.

The Mudhens play a Classic Cannon Valley League contest on the road Sunday at Dundas.

Wanamingo 3, Owatonna 2

Alex Roosen struck out 15 while going the distance for the Wanamingo Jacks on Wednesday in a 3-2 win against the Owatonna Aces.

In nine innings, Alex gave up four hits and two runs (one earned) with four walks. He also aided his own cause the plate, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Andrew Anfinson was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Sam Roosen finished 2-for-4 with a run. Peder Sviggum had a hit and an RBI, and Eric Sviggum and Sam Roosen both scored runs in the Jacks’ victory.

On Sunday, Wanamingo plays host to the Winona Chiefs.
