Amateur Baseball: Miesville scores nine unanswered to beat Red Wing

Red Wing jumped on Miesville late with a run in the first inning and led through the first three innings. Then from the fourth on, the Mudhens scored nine unanswered runs to take an Independence Day victory over the Aces Monday at Jack Ruhr Field.

Deryk Marks was the catalyst for Miesville’s offense, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs along with a home run. Charles Bruchu went 3-for-5 with a two runs and an RBI, and Zach Laffey hit a solo home run against his former team. Nate Hammes and Spencer Merle each collected a pair of hits, with Merle belting a pair of doubles, as the Mudhens accounted for 13 hits on the day.

On the mound, Jacob Dickmeyer got the victory with five strikeouts while giving up five hits and one walk over eight innings.

Statistics for Red Wing were not available at press time.

The Aces host Randolph on Sunday while the Mudhens are back at home today against the St. Paul Capitals.

Cannon Falls 10, Randolph 0

Lake Byllesby belonged to Cannon Falls on Monday after the Bears knocked off Classic Cannon Valley League foe Randolph in a 10-0 seven-inning Independence Day victory at John Burch Park. 

Keith Meyers threw a three-hit shutout for the victory on the mound, striking out five while giving up just one hit. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate for Cannon Falls with a double, two RBI and a run. Brock Peterson was 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs with Alex Tauer and Rich Burr both were 2-for-4 with two runs.

Paul Weidner, Dan Pawelk and Kyle Vickerman each accounted for the Railcats’ three hits. Rick Wagner was charged with the loss after giving up 10 runs and 15 hits in four innings.

Cannon Falls plays host to Lake City on Sunday while Randolph is on the road Sunday against Red Wing.

Sunday

Miesville 11, Cannon Falls 9

Getting 11 runs in the first three innings, Miesville had all the cushion it needed to prevent a Cannon Falls comeback for an 11-9 Classic Cannon Valley League win Sunday at Jack Ruhr Field.

Charles Bruchu was 1-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and a pair of runs for the Mudhens, and Zach Laffey was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run. Alex LaShomb was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Matt Van Der Bosch and Deryk Marks both scored twice for Miesville.

Friday

Miesville 7, Eagan 6

Miesville started its three-win weekend with a 7-6 non-league victory over the visiting Eagan Bandits on Friday.

With the Mudhens going off for 14 hits, Alex LaShomb led the way after a 4-for-4 effort that resulted in two RBI and a run. Sebastian Holte-Mancera finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run, and Jordy Horsch was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Charles Bruchu drove in two runs, and Matt Van Der Bosch was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Wanamingo 5, Pine Island 1

From the top of the order, Eric Sviggum gave Wanamingo the push it needed en route to a 5-1 Twin Rivers League victory against Pine Island on Friday.

Sviggum was 4-for-5 with a pair of triples, two RBI and two runs scored. Brady Anfinson was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Alex Roosen, Jason Traynor and Andrew Anfinson each crossed home in the Jacks’ victory.

No statistics for the Pioneers were available at press time.

Both teams are on the road today as Wanamingo travels to Owatonna and Pine Island heads to Rochester.
