Amateur Baseball: Northfield sweeps Lake City
Northfield's pitching and defense held Lake City to six runs on Sunday, and the Knights offense provided ample run support in a doubleheader sweep of the Serpents. Northfield won 5-1 in the opener, and 11-5 in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Kyle Sursely was hit nine times for five earned runs, which was far too many for Lake City to answer. Ben Edelbach had two hits, and the rest of the Serpents accounted for just two more. Logan Thomas picked up an RBI without a hit for Lake City.
Dave Picha got the win for Northfield with Scott Benjamin picking up three hits and two RBI.
Ryan Wolfe was tagged for 10 runs, all earned, on nine hits and three walks in a seven-inning Game 2. The big blows came in the middle of the game with Northfield scoring twice in the third and sixth innings, and three times in the fourth and fifth.
Alex Nelson's three hits were a full one-third of the Serpents total, and Zachary Wolfe had all three of Lake City's RBI.
