Amateur Baseball: Dundas whips Red Wing

Aaron Johnson struggled on Sunday, giving up five runs against Dundas. But the result would have been the same had Johnson allowed a single run as Todd Mathison shut down the Aces in a 7-0 Dukes victory that saw Red Wing post just four hits.

Zach Laffey, Kyle Blahnik, Josh Thygesen and Mike Stegora supplied the hits, all singles save for Stegora’s triple.

Johnson, who was bounced after 5 2/3 innings, gave up seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts and two earned runs. Joel Newman pitched 1 1/3 innings of two-hit relief before Tyler Goering finished off the game by allowing two runs on four hits in one inning of work.

Adam Johnson had the hot bat for Dundas, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.

The Aces will look to get back on track today against Hampton in the first of three home games in five days. On Friday, Cannon Falls will visit the Red Wing Athletic Field, followed by Randolph on Sunday.
