Football: A day later, Z-M finishes off St. Charles

Resuming play with 8 minutes, 54 seconds left in the third quarter and holding a 28-6 lead, Zumbrota-Mazeppa continued to dominate St. Charles on the way to a 44-13 Southern Football Alliance White division win Saturday.

When the game resumed, the Cougars didn’t need much time to get back on the scoreboard as Kurt Gadient connected with Ellis Hirman for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 7:49 left in the third. Less than a minute later, Gadient and Hirman put Z-M back in the end zone on a 22-yard touchdown pass.

Jacob Tschann, who scored three touchdowns in the first half Friday, put the Cougars up 44-6 with a 26-yard field goal. Tschann finished the game with 124 rushing yards on 22 carries.

The Saints got their only score in the second half with 4:20 left in the game on an 80-yard run by Jacy Ball.

Gadient led Z-M’s aerial attack, going 9 of 16 for 162 yards with no interceptions. Hirman and Jacob Forrey were the top receivers, with 58 and 40 yards, respectively. Hunter Prodzinski had 27 yards receiving and two fumble recoveries on the defensive end.

The Cougars (4-2, 4-1 SFA White) take on Pine Island at home Friday for sole possession of second place in the White division.
