Cross Country: Cannon Falls girls first, boys third in Pine Island

Emi Trost beat the field by nearly a minute and a half, and the Cannon Falls girls cross country team held off host Pine Island to take first place in the Panthers’ invitational.

Trost completed her run in 14 minutes, 50.7 seconds while second-place Karen Gomez of Chatfield came in at 16:18.8. But the key for the Bombers was having Katherine Hoffman (16:49.4) and Payton Cooper (17:03.1) come in third and fourth, respectively. Those scores kept Pine Island, which placed runners fifth through 10th, to 35 points, three behind Cannon Falls.

Emma Thomley placed 11th for the Bombers with a time of 18:14.5 while Ashleight Dralle took 13th ina time of 18:30.2.

Bjorn Pearson nearly matched Trost’s place, but took second overall in the boys’ race with a time of 18:17.0, 52 seconds behind Christian Bance of Chatfield. Karl Ritzman placed fourth for the Bombers with a time of 18:35.5.

The Cannon Falls boys came in third place as a team with a point total of 55. Chatfield won the team portion with a score of 33, followed by Pine Island’s 42.
