Girls Tennis: Bombers open 1A playoffs with win

Third-seeded Cannon Falls had no trouble in its Section 1A opener on Wednesday, dispatching of New Life Academy 6-1 in Cannon Falls.

“We played well again at every spot,” said Bombers’ head coach Paul Norstad. “We’ve been playing very good tennis.”

Cannon Falls’ one blemish came at No. 4 singles as the Eagles’ Michelle Penwell won 5-7, 7-5, 12-10. But from there, it was smooth sailing for the Bombers, highlighted by a 7-5, 6-2 victory for Sheyenne Bauer over New Life’s Anu Otgonbat.

In doubles, the Bombers’ teams of Grace Rutter and Sarah Modreak, and Molly Rolfes and Bethany Nelson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Cannon Falls’ next section match takes place Tuesday in Owatonna.
