Girls Soccer: PIZM escapes with win over Lake City

With 12 minutes left in Tuesday’s Hiawatha Valley League match, an own goal allowed by Lake City that was credited to Keana Rosaaen put Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa past the Tigers 3-2.

“It was a fantastic match. Lake City gave us as much as we could handle,” Wildcats’ head coach Doug Weincouff said. “They fought hard.”

PIZM held a 2-1 halftime lead thanks to a pair of goals from Madison House, while Lake City’s Emily Schimbeno put in a goal with 2 minutes, 24 seconds left in the first half. Then 15 minutes into the second half, the Tigers tied the match with a goal. Then at the 68th minute, the Wildcats took the lead for good.

Lake City goalkeeper Beth Peterson had six saves in the loss.

The Tigers (3-11, 0-6 HVL) play their regular-season finale Thursday against Stewartville. PIZM ends the regular season at 8-6-1 overall, 3-4 in the HVL.
