Volleyball: Cougars nearly shock No. 2 Stewartville

Zumbrota-Mazeppa nearly shocked Class 2A’s second-ranked team, but Stewartville ultimately held off a scrappy Cougars team in a 19-25, 25-18, 25-17, 27-29, 15-8 Hiawatha Valley League victory in Zumbrota.

Z-M’s Carley Henning had a match-high 16 kills, and also finished with four ace serves. Kalli Paukert paced the offense with 44 set assists, and Molly Lawler came up with 33 digs. Breana Haag had 11 kills and 20 digs, and Jamie Warneke added 23 digs in the loss.

Ashley Eberle pounded nine kills for the Tigers (14-0, 9-0 HVL), and Stephanie Schmidt had 34 set assists in the victory.

The Cougars (7-8, 3-5 HVL) look to rebound Thursday at Pine Island.
