Cross Country: Cannon Falls, Goodhue compete at ZMKW

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo boys cross-country team took second at its home invitational Thursday with a score of 57, 20 points behind first-place Waseca.

The Cougars placed all five of their scoring times in the top 20, led by Eric Hokanson’s time of 18 minutes, 6.7 seconds, which was good for sixth place. Micah Grove was close behind in eighth place with a time of 18:18.0 followed by Ben Nystuen’s 12th-place time of 18:28.1. Ben Kleese, 15th at 18:42.3, and Craig Banks, 16th at 18:47.1, rounded out the scoring for ZM/KW.

The Cannon Falls boys were paced by Bjorn Pearson’s ninth-place time of 18:18.9, as well as Karl Ritzman’s 14th-place time of 18:38.8. The Bombers placed seventh as a team with 159 points.

Goodhue finished ninth as a team, with 221 points. The Wildcats’ Joel Gadient took 34th with a time of 20:03.8.

In the girls race, also won by Waseca with 39 points, ZM/KW’s Skyler Jacobson took fifth with a run of 16:20.6. Callie Ryan finished 20th for the Cougars in a time of 17:18.0. ZM/KW took fifth as a team with 150 points.

Racing without top-ranked Emi Trost, the Cannon Falls girls were led by Katherine Hoffman’s 16:39.6. The Bombers took ninth with 176 points.
