Girls Tennis: Wingers win non-conference match with Hastings

For the third straight match, the Red Wing girls tennis came out victorious, this time by a 5-2 score over non-conference opponent Hastings.

The Wingers got off to a quick start as the top two singles players, Emily Stegora and Emily Otteson, registered speedy wins. Stegora trumped Anna Foster 6-2, 6-2, while Otteson shut down Annika Peterson 6-3, 6-0.

Lauren Grant got the third win in singles play with a No. 4 defeat of Sara Lund 6-4, 7-5.

The Wingers doubles teams had a similar afternoon, losing just one match to the Raiders. Red Wing’s top doubles team of Solveig Christenson and Nicole Scahmmel got a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jill Wienzettel and Maddie Carlson, while the No. 2 group of Katie Carlson and Lauren Brooks topped Sammy Dabruzzi and Lauren Mattmiller 6-2, 6-3.

Red Wing’s Missota Conference match against Northfield, set for Thursday, was postponed due to rain.

The Wingers (10-4-1 overall, 4-1 Missota) will have a busy week coming up with Missota Conference matches at New Prague Tuesday, home against Northfield Wednesday, then home against Chanhassen Thursday.
