Girls Soccer: Lake City gets back into the win column

For the second time this season, the Lake City girls soccer team upended St. Charles with a 1-0 victory. The Tigers, who earned their second overall win of the season against the Saints, also beat St. Charles, 1-0, on Aug. 22.

Emily Schimbeno got the lone goal of the game on an assist from Brandy White.

“It was really four passes that connected, zig-zagging outside the box, and Emily got open and she put a nice touch shot on goal,” said Lake City coach Mark Spence.

Beth Petersen had three saves in the victory, but she did handle the ball a bit more than that.

“They didn’t have many strong opportunities,” Spence said. “They’d kick the ball down and she’d grab them. She had a couple to tip over the net, but she was fine on those.”

Lake City (2-6) will face a stiff test Thursday when the Tigers travel to eighth-ranked (1A) Kasson-Mantorville.
