Volleyball: Goodhue takes 4th at W-K tournament

Going 4-3 on Saturday, the Goodhue volleyball team placed fourth in the Wabasha-Kellogg invitational.

Opening with a 25-11, 25-17 victory against Lake City, Mikayla Tipcke had 22 set assists, three digs, one ace serve and a kill. Mikayla Miller tallied a team-high eight kills, and Meredith Watson had six kills, four digs and two ace serves.

Against Wabasha-Kellogg, the Wildcats lost the first set 22-25, then rebounded to win the second set 25-22. The two teams played two more points, awarding W-K the victory. In the match, Watson had nine kills and 10 digs, and libero Emilee Roschen had eight digs. Goodhue dropped another match against Fillmore Central, 25-18, 25-21. Tipcke continued her solid play with 24 assists, five digs and four kills, and Miller added nine kills and eight digs. Watson chalked up 13 digs, six kills, one block and an ace serve.

Facing Dover-Eyota, the two teams tied 23-25, 25-22, with Goodhue ultimately getting awarded the win. Watson and Kali Ryan each finished with eight kills, and Shelby Hinsch knocked down seven balls in the victory. The Wildcats continued to string together wins with a 25-21, 25-22 win against Lewiston-Altura. Roschen had 18 digs and Tipcke put together a stellar all-around effort with 22 set assists, nine digs and four kills.

Getting a second shot against W-K, Goodhue came up with the ‘W,’ 26-24, 25-16. Watson finished with nine kills and eight digs, and Ryan was a force at the net with four kills and six blocks. Laurie Pearson had five digs, three kills and two ace serves in the win.

Lake City statistics were unavailable at press time.

Goodhue heads to Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Tuesday.
