Four times the Chaska Hawks claimed the top three spots in an event in a 79-68 Missota Conference victory over Red Wing Thursday evening at Twin Bluff Middle School.

The meet started close, with the two teams alternating the six spots in the 200-yard medley relay. After that, Chaska flexed its muscle, sweeping the 200 freestyle, then took three of the top four spots in the 200 individual medley.

The Wingers finally responded in the diving competition, hoarding the podium with Lydia Miller, Emma Streff and Allison Byrne. Miller won the event with a personal best of 172.65 points with Streff (155.30) and Byrne (150.00) both at least 46.50 points ahead of any Chaska divers.

Though the meet was decided after the ninth event, Red Wing coach Kevin O’Brien could not have been too disappointed as several of his girls competed in events that they haven’t experienced in some time.

“(The) swimmers swam events they don't normally swim tonight to give them a mental break due to three meets this week,” O’Brien said. “A lot of the girls had some big time drops in races they haven't swam for a while.”

The Wingers will compete in that third event Saturday at Bloomington Kennedy.

Tuesday Hudson 101, Red Wing 77 The Red Wing girls swimming team suffered a 101-77 loss to Hudson Tuesday in a non-conference affair in Wisconsin. The Raiders claimed victory in nine of the 12 events, including five contests where Hudson took the top two spots.

Claire King got the first win for the Wingers with honors in the 200-yard individual medley a time of 2 minutes, 51.02 seconds. The 200-yard freestyle relay combination of Carly Boisen, King, Ingrid Olson and Paulina Duchelle won their event in with a 1:50.92.

Boisen, Nina Kriese, Kelly Colwell and Ashley Thompson got the final first-place finish for the Wingers with a time of 5:20.86 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
