Baseball: Strong pitching performance helps Goodhue advance

Holding Blooming Prairie to two hits, Goodhue advanced in the Section 1A-West tournament with a 4-0 victory Thursday in Goodhue.

With the victory, the No. 4-seeded Wildcats will face top-seeded and 17th-ranked Kenyon-Wanamingo at 10 a.m. Saturday in Austin.

Andy Johnson was dominant on the mound for Goodhue, striking out 11 and holding the fifth-seeded Awesome Blossoms to three walks in a complete-game victory. Johnson also was strong at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Alex Thomforde hit a home run for the Wildcats, and Riley Bollum was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI.

Sam Swenson went 1-for-3 to lead Blooming Prairie. Weston Fiebiger was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

With the victory, Goodhue moves to 6-14 overall.
