Girls Golf: Lake City wins HVL Championship meet
Playing in the Hiawatha Valley League championship Thursday at The Oaks Golf Course in Hayfield, the Lake City girls golf team ended the conference season in style, winning the tournament with a team score of 347, beating Stewartville by four strokes.
Due to the cumulative season results, Stewartville won the HVL title, while Lake City finished second. The rest of the conference is to be determined as conference meets still need to be made up.
Among area teams, Zumbrota-Mazeppa finished in third with 376, and Cannon Falls took 10th with 466.
Erin Pennington paced Lake City with a round of 10-over par round of 82, which put her in a tie for second individually. Claire Gruber added an 85.
Z-M's top golfer was Kari Thoreson, who finished sixth individually after carding an 88. Molly Lawler came up with a 91 for the Cougars.
Cannon Falls' top golfer was Maddie Moskal, who finished with a 107. Lauren Lecy had a round of 116 for the Bombers.
Clinching medalist honors was Stewartville's Blair Honsey, who carded an 81, beating teammate Kenzie Olsen and Lake City's Pennington by a stroke.
