Boys Hockey: Belisle out as boys hockey coach

Red Wing is searching for its next boys hockey coach as Mike Belisle was ousted as the Wingers' head coach last week.

"All coaching positions are year-to-year contracts, and we've opened the position," Red Wing Athletic Director Matt Schultz said.

In three seasons, Belisle led Red Wing to a 28-51-3 record, getting as far as the Section 1A semifinals in 2010-11. In 2010-11 and 2011-12, the Wingers finished in fourth place in the Missota Conference.

Red Wing struggled to a 5-20-2 record in 2012-13, getting to the second round of the section playoffs after a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Austin. The season came to an end Feb. 21 against Mankato West.

Belisle could not be reached for comment.

With the job posted on the Minnesota State High School League's website, Schultz is looking to close the opening by the end of May. In the meantime, the Wingers' assistant coaches are keeping tabs on the off-season program.

"Right now, coaches (Bob) Rajanen and (Chad) Bray are both working to make sure all the summer stuff is taken care of," Schultz said. "We're hoping to find a new coach by June."
