Boys Basketball: Tigers win battle of HVL Blue's top teams

Ninth-grader Brady Kuchinka had the best game of his young career for Lake City Friday night in Lake City.

Kuchinka scored 18 of his career-high 22 points in the second half and overtime to help the Tigers recover from a 30-13 halftime deficit to defeat Zumbrota-Mazeppa 60-55 in overtime.

Lake City (12-1, 5-0 HVL Blue) shot just 6-for-21 in the first half but recovered to shoot 50 percent in the second half while forcing 10 second-half turnovers by the Cougars.

Reid Lundell had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers while Ben Schramski also scored 15 points to take sole possession of first place in the Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division.

Lucas Ziemba finished with 22 points, Nathaniel Rauen tallied 19 points and Kevin Niebuhr added six points and 13 rebounds for Z-M (7-4, 3-1 HVL Blue).

The score was 50-50 at the end of regulation.

The win was Lake City's ninth in a row and the Tigers face Kenyon-Wanamingo Tuesday in Lake City. The Cougars play at Byron Tuesday.
