Softball: 2012 All-Area First Team

Amber Jentsch, junior, first base, Zumbrota-Mazeppa

Jentsch, a first team all-state member last season and an honorable mention winner this season, hit .449 with seven home runs and 37 RBI. Jentsch scored 20 runs this year and owns a .423 career batting average.

Breanna Ellison, junior, pitcher, Pepin-Alma

Ellison hit .500, slugged .809 and had an on-base percentage of .595. Ellison drove in 32 RBI and scored 25 runs, but made strides in her pitching this season. "She is the most powerful hitter I have ever seen in high school softball and has really been a leader for us on the rubber this season," Eagles head coach Matt Bellerive said. Ellison finished 17-3 with 143 strikeouts in 121 innings. Ellison put together an ERA of 1.85 and walked just 30 this season.

Tesha Buck, junior,

shortstop, Red Wing

Buck hit .434 and had an on-base percentage of .500. Buck had 23 hits and 11 runs. Buck has started for the past five seasons at shortstop and has a career fielding percentage of .934. Buck owns a .422 career batting average and a .482 on-base percentage. Buck holds the school record in batting average, runs, hits, doubles, home runs and stolen bases.

Paige Gadient, junior, third base, Goodhue

Gadient had a breakout year for Goodhue with a .453 batting average and a .633 on-base percentage. Gadient had 14 RBI, scored 27 runs with two home runs, three doubles and one triple. Gadient had just seven career RBI prior to this season. Gadient was named all-conference this year.

Kyllie Smith,

senior, third base, Lake City

Smith slugged .535, had an on-base percentage of .478 and hit .442. Smith drove in five runs and had 19 hits. Smith hit fourth for the Tigers and was named all-conference despite missing two weeks due to a knee injury.

Ali Murray, junior, shortstop, Pepin-Alma

Pepin-Alma junior Ali Murray had a monster year at the plate for the Eagles (18-4, 15-1 Dunn-St. Croix). Murray hit .456 with 11 doubles, two triples and three home runs while knocking in 30 runs. She also scored a team-leading 26 runs, was tops on the team with 36 hits and had eight stolen bases.

Megan Ripley, senior, pitcher, Cannon Falls

Ripley helped guide the Bombers to a 16-5 season with her pitching and hitting. Ripley threw 70 innings and walked just 11 in that time. Ripley finished the season with a 1.40 ERA and 65 strikeouts. She also hit .404 and was the team MVP. Cannon Falls fell in the first round of the Section 1AA tournament to Stewartville.

Halle Hatch, senior, pitcher, Ellsworth

Hatch finished the season with a 10-5 record and a 1.86 ERA with 73 strikeouts and 27 walks. Hatch is a three-year all-conference player for the Panthers and put together 26 wins in that time. Hatch throws five pitches and has played varsity for the past four seasons.

Mariah Diercks,

senior, third base, Ellsworth

Diercks led the Panthers with a .333 average and a .449 slugging percentage. Diercks also had a team-high 23 hits and 18 runs. Diercks finished second on the team with 18 RBI and was named all-conference the past two seasons. "Mariah's leadership will be impossible to replace and her hitting and fielding are second to none," Ellsworth head coach Ryan Casper said.
