Irina Anderson captured first place all-around Friday for the Red Wing gymnastics team in Red Wing, but Farmington edged the Wingers 125.325-123.85.

Red Wing head coach Beth Meyer said it was the best meet of the year for the team as it displayed some confidence, which translated into better performances.

"Up to this point they were not very confident performing," Meyer said. "We always knew they had a lot of talent. It's nice to see when it finally hits home with them."

Anderson scored 31.9 points and won the vault and uneven bars. Maria Furlong finished third overall with 30.725 points and won the floor exercise.

Carlie Sandstrom added another event victory for the Wingers with a first-place finish in balance beam.

Red Wing faces Chaska/Chanhassen Tuesday at Chanhassen.
