Red Wing blanks Hampton

Augie Lindmark threw eight innings of shutout ball Friday night at the Red Wing Athletic Field to help the Aces capture yet another Classic Cannon Valley League Game. The Aces came out on top 4-0 against the Hampton Cardinals.

The southpaw scattered eight hits and got out of a couple tough jams in the early innings to give the Aces their 13th CCVL victory. Not one Hampton player reached third base in the game.

"He threw strikes and only walked one batter," Aces player/assistant manager Jimmy Bohmbach said. "And for the most part we played pretty good defense behind him."

Lindmark escaped the first inning when the Cardinals led off with a double but set the next three guys down. They threatened again in the second when they led off with two straight base hits, but the Red Wing defense turned a double play in the next at-bat.

Three of the Aces runs came in the second inning, when Dave Jensen led off with a double and Josh Thygesen knocked him in with a base hit. Andy Schilling later hit a two-run home run in the inning.

"For the most part we hit the ball pretty hard," Bohmbach said while also mentioning not one Aces batter struck out. "I think we did pretty well."

Jensen finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and Steve Boldt also knocked in a run and had one hit.

Tuesday's results

The Aces also shut out the Northfield Knights Tuesday night 11-0 with help from Aaron Johnson's start on the mound. The lefty went six innings. Jordan Warren also made an appearance on the mound in relief.

Zach Laffey hit a three-run home run and finished with two hits while Boldt was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Red Wing (23-7 overall, 13-4 CCVL) hosts the Lake City Serpents Sunday at home for another CCVL game. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
