Boys golf: Wingers make Final Four

Red Wing was one of four teams to advance to the second day of the Section 1AA tournament by shooting a 332 Friday at Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester, but Wingers coach Todd Petterson said it's already time to begin preparing for the 2012 season.

That's because it's hard to imagine the Wingers catching either of the teams in front of them when play resumes Friday. Byron and Rochester Lourdes are tied for first with a 310.

"Just try and compete," Petterson said when asked about his goals for the second day. "Out of this group of six, five are coming back (next year). Parker (Riegelman's) the only senior. Try and get ready for next year."

Matthew Petterson led the Wingers with an 82. Blake Westerberg and Jarrett Enevold both shot an 83. Alan Wedrickas posted an 84. All four golfers are juniors.

Riegelman shot an 88 and junior Tyler Grove finished with a 91.

Lake City came in 11th with a 369 and Zumbrota-Mazeppa tied for 13th with a 396. Cannon Falls (407) came in 15th in the 15-team field.

Even though his team isn't advancing, Cannon Falls junior Kyle Peters will be back as an individual on the second day after shooting an 87.

Lake City sophomore Jack Falvey (88) also will compete as an individual Friday.
