Amateur baseball: Wagner leads Bears

CANNON FALLS - Rick Wagner allowed one run over seven innings Friday to earn the win and help the Cannon Falls Bears beat Elko 4-3.

He struck out three, didn't walk a batter and allowed seven hits.

"He worked ahead in the count, mixed his speeds well," Bears player/manager Keith Meyers said. "He threw really well."

Aaron Stein came on in relief and earned the save. He pitched two innings, struck out four and didn't allow a run.

The Bears scored a run in each of the first four innings, but their margin of victory could have been larger. Cannon Falls left the bases loaded twice.

"We couldn't drive anyone in, but a win's a win," Meyers said.

Taylor Pagel was 2-for-5 with a home run in the third inning for the Bears. Nick Nobach finished 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Meyer collected two hits, including a double, and threw out two runners at the plate from left field. He also scored a run and stole a base.

Cannon Falls (4-1) plays host Sunday to Randolph.
