EHS golf team places fifth at sectional

RICE LAKE - Ellsworth High School's boys golf team had one of its best meets of the season to place fifth in Wednesday's WIAA Division 2 Barron Sectional played at Turtleback Golf Course.

Ellsworth shot a 338 led by 80 scores from Chrystian Kulow (81), Mike Tingelhoff (81) and Bryce Stein (84). Emery Whalen shot a 92 and Kyle Kurrelmeyer had a 94. The Panthers had a front nine team score of 164 and they shot a 174 on the back.

Hayward won the sectional meet shooting a season-best 317 while Osceola will also head to state as it shot a 324. Altoona's Gabby Curits won individual sectional title shooting a 75. Also qualifying individually were Unity's Evan Lunda and Bloomer freshman Noah Price, who won a four-way tie-breaker at 78.

The state meet is next Monday and Tuesday in Madison.
