Elmwood girls hoops tops Ellsworth in overtime
ELLSWORTH - Elmwood High School's girls basketball team outlasted Ellsworth 51-46 in an exciting overtime contest Tuesday.
The Panthers rallied back from a third quarter and fourth quarter deficits to take a 40-39 lead with under a minute to go. But a pair of critical turnovers helped the Raiders tie the game at 40-40 and led to the extra session. There the Raiders outscored the home team 11-6 thanks to clutch shooting from both Ally Pax, who finished with 14 points and Christina McKune who led Elmwood with 16 points. McKayla Brunner had nine points.
Ellsworth had three players in double figures led by 13 points each for Lydia Kuhl and Abbey Ristow and 11 points for Halle Hatch. Hayley Stoesz scored nine points on three three-pointers. Both teams made six trifectas during the contest.
The Raiders now have the best record of girls basketball teams in Pierce County at 5-4 while Ellsworth drops to 1-7.
