Letter: Travel with RW students to Japan for trip of lifetime
To the editor:
Red Wing has had a student exchange with our sister city in Ikata, Japan, for over 20 years. This is an amazing opportunity for our high school students to experience another culture and in return, also host the Japanese kids here.
A huge part of this program is finding an adult chaperone to accompany the Red Wing students on this two-week adventure of a lifetime. Responsibilities include preparing the six kids with cultural information and fundraising; also overseeing their well-being while in Japan and helping them be ambassadors of Red Wing.
If you are interested in this fantastic opportunity, go to the City of Red Wing's website, click on "Departments," then "Boards and Commissions," and then "Sister Cities Commission." The application deadline has been extended.
I was this past year's chaperone and can highly recommend it as a wonderful way to promote relations between our two countries, guide our young people to respect and understand another culture, and meet some of the most wonderful people you can imagine. P.S. The food is divine!
