Editorial: Do the undo

The gavel came down Tuesday to open what Gov. Mark Dayton has dubbed the “Unsession.” He wants to get rid of bad laws on the books — and there are several. They include some such as the warehouse tax that he signed last year.

His official website reads: The Unsession is a first-of-its-kind effort to make government better, faster, simpler and more efficient for people. We want to improve service, shorten wait times, eliminate old and outdated rules, and undo anything else that makes government nearly impossible for people to understand.

We encourage lawmakers and citizens to take the concept seriously.

In some respects, it’s an election campaign tactic, but that doesn’t mean the idea lacks merit.

There are plenty of sexist, racist, impractical and archaic laws on the books.

Get rid of them.
