Tuck in a toy for tot or teen

With Thanksgiving behind us, the time of giving is rapidly approaching.

Grandpa needs new slippers. Aunt Jane is always happy with a good book. Grandma says a kiss of plenty, but you know she could use a turtleneck or two. The list goes on.

In the spirit of the season, we encourage you to pick up a gift or two for strangers while shopping for loved ones.

Grab an ornament from the Goodhue County Christmas Project tree at your church. The snowsuit a 6-year-old wants and the jeans a teen needs may be the only gifts under their family tree this year.

Visiting the grocery store? Toss some peanut butter, a box of cereal and some canned goods into the cart. Then swing by the local food shelf.

Purchase an extra toy — maybe something you always wanted as a kid — and drop it in one of the Toys for Tots barrels scattered around town.

May the joy of Christmas inspire you to remember that it can be better to give than to receive.
