Column: Protect your investment: Register your bike
Q: Does Red Wing Police Department have bicycle registration program?
A: Yes, the Red Wing Police Department has a bicycle registration program and the best part of the program is it is free!
How do you register your bike? There is one of two ways you can register your bike; one is to attend the annual Bike Rodeo 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017. The other is to visit the Law Enforcement Center and ask for Tim Bohmbach.
A license decal will be affixed to the bicycle frame. The licenses will help return bicycles to their owners if they're stolen.
How it works, the NBR/529 Garage Service registers your bicycle by serial number in a national database and affixes the special label on your bike. If your bike is ever stolen, it can be identified and you can prove ownership.
Law enforcement anywhere can access the database and you are notified immediately.
"Ask The Chief" is a weekly post allowing readers access to useful information about law enforcement issues in Red Wing.
