Letter: Get on board Earth Day bus

To the editor:

Almost 47 years ago, Republican California Congressman Pete McCloskey was persuaded by Wisconsin Democratis Sen. Gaylord Nelson to serve as his co-chair in an effort to launch an environmental awareness day. Their combined efforts led to the formation of a national staff to establish environmental education events across the country.

The concept of having a day to promote dialogue on environmental issues is no less relevant now than it was on the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970.

This year, I am taking the opportunity to actively observe Earth Day by participating in the March for Science — Minnesota to be held Saturday, April 22 in St. Paul. The march will start at 11 a.m. at Cathedral Hill Park, followed by a noon rally at the Minnesota Capitol. Marchers are encouraged to wear blue and green. Additional information about these events may be found online.

I plan to join many of my fellow Red Wing area residents and ride a chartered bus leaving/returning from the Red Wing Mall. Please call 651-388-9159 to reserve a seat on the bus.
