Carol Ann Books of Aurora, Colorado, died of natural causes 22 December, 2017 at the age of 85, one week shy of her 86th birthday. She was born 31 December, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN. Her family moved to Bismarck, ND, where she graduated from Bismarck High School in the class of 1949. She graduated in the class of 1953 with a degree in Physical Education from Jamestown College in North Dakota. Carol met her future husband, Joseph, during college and they were married in Bismarck, ND in May of 1954. Her husband, Joseph, entered the United States Army, and the family moved to Germany, where their only son, Joseph P. Books, was born. Upon Joseph's discharge from the Army, Carol and family lived in Moorehead, MN, and then moved on to Crookston and Thief River Falls before settling in Red Wing, MN in 1966. Carol lived in Red Wing until 2003 when she moved to Aurora, CO to be near her family. Carol was a special education teacher at Vasa Children's Home, where she taught children of all ages until her retirement in 1992. She also taught all levels of swimming to the children of Red Wing at the local YMCA for many years. Carol was a long-time member of the United Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was an active volunteer in the church. She enjoyed travelling abroad, and art activities to include painting, wood carving and photography. Carol is survived by her son, Joseph Paul Books and wife Katharine Kay Books of Centennial, Colorado, and her grandchildren: Heidi Lynn Books, Christopher Joseph Books, Matthew James Emig, Andrea Kay Emig, Derek Anthony Romero and Katelin Isabelle Books. And her great-grandchildren Destiny Renea Coppa, Haley Paige Coppa, Aspen Makayla Emig, Gwendalyn Margaret Emig and Liliana Grace Emig. She is also survived by her cousin Marilyn Long of St. Paul, Minnesota. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Books, and her parents Ervin L. Anderberg and Myrtle Isabelle Swanson Anderberg. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel with Rev. Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Flowers can be delivered to the Mahn Family Funeral Home, or in-lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Carol's name to United Lutheran Church, 628 W 5th St, Red Wing, MN 55066.
