Lowell R. Payton

Lowell Ronald Payton, age 88 of Prescott WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017, while surrounded by family. Lowell was born on February 3, 1929 in Orange County, Indiana to parents Ernest and Dessie (Apple) Payton. Like so many of his generation, Lowell attended country school. Lowell entered the military, where he would serve his country honorably in the United States Army. On May 10, 1947, Lowell would be united in marriage to Donnis Allen. Their union in marriage would be blessed with over 70 years of love and devotion, four children, and two generations of grandchildren. Lowell moved to the Prescott area to work at the St. Paul Ammonia Plant. He would later work as a boiler operator with the Koch Refinery before retiring. Outside of work, Lowell enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables in his gardens. He spent a lot of time camping, and took great joy in just being around his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Lowell is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Donnis; his children, Ron (Annette) Payton, Bruce (Jane) Payton, Ed (Tammy) Payton, and Jim (Linda) Payton; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dessie (Apple) Payton; his sisters, Myrtle (Chester) Suddarth, Semira (Charles) Newkirk, Bessie (Jim) Hatfield, and Janie (Woodrow) Newkirk; and his brothers, Russell (Johnny May) Payton, Noble Payton, and Ernest Payton. To honor Lowell's wishes, he will be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date.
