Area Girls Soccer: Offensive explosion pushes Wildcats past Tigers

Fresh off its first win of the season, the Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls' soccer team doubled down on its efforts to the tune of a 7-0 shutout of Lake City on Monday.

The Wildcats scored three goals in the first half and four in the second.

Morgan VanHouten led PIZM with three goals, while Lana Yeakel found the back of the net twice, and Mia Schmoll and Breanna Ihde each scored once.

Jordan Weber made nine saves while Bridget Downes also got some action in at keeper, making five saves.

Individual stats for Lake City were unavailable.

Lake City will get a chance at revenge as the two teams face off again on Thursday at Pine Island.
