River City Ramble returns Aug. 4
Submitted by Mayo Clinic Health System
Mayo Clinic Health System and the Red Wing Family YMCA encourage families to get active together by participating in the River City Ramble coming up Saturday, Aug. 4. The family-friendly event is designed for all fitness levels to help make physical activity a part of everyday life.
The course for the 5K run and the two-mile walk starts at Central Park in Red Wing and continues through the historic district, along streets with panoramic views of the Mississippi River and ends back at Central Park. The Kids' Fun Run is just the right length for kids from age 2 and up. Parents are encouraged to run with their younger children.
"The Ramble is a great community event," said Dr. Brian Whited, CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing. "We encourage the community including families with children of all ages to come and participate in a healthy fun activity."
The River City Ramble is presented by the Red Wing Family YMCA and sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System. This partnership developed to help encourage area residents to adopt healthy physical activity habits. Proceeds from the event benefit the Red Wing Family YMCA Youth Scholarship Program & YMCA Camp Pepin scholarship fund.
"Each year we try to incorporate some extra fun to the event," said Mike Melstad, CEO of Red Wing Family YMCA. "In addition to prizes for first, second and third place finished by age groups, we have a variety of door prizes to give away. There is music along the route to encourage the participants and snacks are available at the finish line."
Volunteers are still welcome to help with the event. To volunteer or to pre-register for the event, go to www.redwingymca.org or call 65-388-4724 ext. 223.
